This is the first of five posts that outline our full range of products so even if you cannot get to the market you can still see what we make. Origami Jewellery

We make all the origami out of hundreds of different paper types/colours and patterns and will always try to source paper right for you. To buy online check out our Etsy Store or drop past one of our markets or stockists.

Below is our current origami jewellery range and it is broken up into sections according to the type of jewellery.

Earrings – Cranes

– Lacquered Crane Earrings –

These are our basic earrings, they are made of paper and ALL of our findings are EU standard NICKEL and LEAD FREE then silver plated, making them perfect for people with metal allergies. Any pair of our earrings available online or at our markets can be made into clip-on’s upon request.

The paper patterns are many and varied and most requests of colours and patterns can be accommodated. We use a mixture of papers including some recycled paper but our main type of paper is Chiyogami/Yuzen Paper.

The names Chiyogami and Yuzen are now used interchangeably to describe beautiful traditional Japanese papers. Yuzen papers originate from the Kyoto textile industry and have elaborate gold details in their patterns while the Chiyogami papers (translated to mean ‘thousand generations paper’) originate in the Edo period of Japanese history (1603-1868) and are wood-block printed papers. Each piece of paper is made from kozo and sulphate and has a silk-screened base layer with the pattern hand-printed above in multiple layers. Each colour visible on the paper is a separate layer of printing and drying which makes these beautiful papers very labour intensive.

In order to ensure that our Origami Crane Earrings are resilient we now completely submerge every pair of our earrings in the lacquer meaning there are no spots missed with a paint brush and no brush strokes visible on our finished earrings. The lacquer ensures that the earrings are reasonable water resistant and will easily survive a quick trip outside in inclement weather while also helping them keep their shape. We do not however suggest that you submerge any of our earrings in water as they are still made from paper.

The lacquer has been selected for our earrings as it makes them strong enough to be worn by regularly, and even by younger girls! We have chosen not to resin our earrings, as we do with our pendants and brooches, as we have found that they can be uncomfortable if they poke you in the neck when protected with a harder layer. Our complete lacquering process also ensures better integrity on the cranes themselves as they are dipped on their head pins and this helps ensure that the paper doesn’t rip at the top or bottom making them last longer and they can then be securely attached to the ear hooks.

Lacquering the Origami Crane earrings also helps the beautiful colours of the papers we use to be highlighted and often add depths to the printed colours.

The cranes are 3.5cm (1.38 Inches) from wing tip to wing tip.

– Crane in Hoop –

As with our basic Origami Crane Earrings our Origami Crane in Hoop Earrings are also lacquered for durability, available in a wide range of colours, and strung on NICKEL and LEAD FREE EU standard findings. The hoops are 3.5cm and 1 cm above the hoop to the ear wire. These earrings sit beautifully and the cranes rock making them look like they are on a perch.

– Crane with Egg (Czech Glass Bead) –

As with our basic Origami Crane Earrings our Origami Crane and Egg Earrings are also lacquered for durability, available in a wide range of colours, and strung on NICKEL and LEAD FREE EU standard findings. This design also have a wire-wrapped Czech glass faceted briolette securely affixed to the bottom. This is also available in sterling silver wire and a swarovski faceted briolette on request.

Earrings – Birds

– Birdcage Earrings –

These earrings are made from little origami birds that have been lacquered for durability, are available in a wide range of colours, and are strung on NICKEL and LEAD FREE EU standard findings. The Origami Birds are securely attached to a bird cage and as they move they look like the bird has escaped the cage. The bottom of the cage is just under 2cm and 2.5cm.

-Origami Bird Studs –

These earrings are 1cm-2cm in matching pairs, they are affixed to either an ear post or a clip-on earring and then lacquered ensuring they are both waterproof and will not fall apart. All studs come with rubber backs which sit comfortably against the ear and hold the studs tightly.

Pendants – Cranes

At Joji Creations we don’t lacquer our Origami Crane pendants, we RESIN them. This means that unlike lacquered pendants our pendants are very durable and are able to stand up to EVERYDAY wear without being ruined, even when worn regularly by children! We differentiate between resin and lacquer for our pendants and earrings due to the amount of impact a necklace or earrings will sustain during normal wear, and following our own tests with different protective materials. The bails are resined onto our cranes ensuring that they will not fall off and are then hung on a EU standard NICKEL and LEAD FREE silver plated chain with parrot clasps on the ends, making them perfect for people with metal allergies!

**Even though it has been well sealed it is still not recommended that you shower or swim while wearing your crane, as this may damage it. (They have no problem with a bit of rain or accidental splashes – and normally are fine with one or two accidental soakings as long as your dry them as soon as possible) **

– Small Resined Crane Pendant –

Our Small Resined Origami Crane Pendants are 3.5cm (1.38 Inches) from wing tip to wing tip and are strung on a 45cm (17.7 inches) nickel free silver plated chain unless otherwise requested.

– Large Resined Crane Pendant –

Our Large Resined Origami Crane Pendants are 6cm (2.4 Inches) from wing tip to wing tip and are strung on a 75cm (29.5 inches) nickel free silver plated chain unless otherwise requested.

Pendants – Butterflies

As with our Origami Crane pendants, we RESIN our Origami Butterfly Pendants making them suitable even for children. The bails are resined onto our butterflies ensuring that they will not fall off and are then hung on a EU standard NICKEL and LEAD FREE silver plated chain with parrot clasps on the ends, making them perfect for people with metal allergies!

The paper patterns are many and varied and most requests of colours and patterns can be accommodated. For this model we use a double sided paper to ensure a beautiful colour on each side of the butterfly’s body.

**Even though it has been well sealed it is still not recommended that you shower or swim while wearing your butterfly, as this may damage it. (They have no problem with a bit of rain or accidental splashes – and normally are fine with one or two accidental soakings as long as your dry them as soon as possible) **

– Small Resined Butterfly Pendant –

Our Small Resined Origami Butterfly Pendants are 5cm (2 Inches) from wing tip to wing tip and are strung on a 45cm (17.7 inches) nickel free silver plated chain unless otherwise requested.

– Large Resined Butterfly Pendant –

Our Large Resined Origami Butterfly Pendants are 10cm (4 Inches) from wing tip to wing tip and are strung on a 75cm (29.5 inches) nickel free silver plated chain unless otherwise requested.

Origami Brooches

As with our Origami Pendant our Origami Brooches are resined to make them very durable and water resistant and a badge back has been securely attached using the same resin for strength. We use a wide range of papers including Chiyogami/Yuzen and almost any colour combination is available upon request.

– Crane Brooches –

Our Origami Crane Brooches are 3-4cm high and a wingspan of 6-8cm fully extended. The second wing has been folded up which makes the actual wingspan 4-5cm.

– Owl Brooches –

These origami owls measure approximately 5cm from head to tail and wing tip to wing tip, they are lacquered and have a badge back affixed with resin to ensure they are waterproof and they won’t fall apart.

– Shooting Star Brooches –

These badges are a 3-4 stars joined together to give the illusion of a shooting star. They are lacquered and have a badge back affixed with resin to ensure they are waterproof and they won’t fall apart.

– Star Lapel Pin –

These badges are a single large star that have been completely lacquered and are securely affixed with resin to a lapel pin ensuring they are waterproof and won’t fall apart. They are approximately 2-4cm wide from point to point.

Origami Star Jewellery

-Star Studs –

These earrings are assorted sizes ranging from 1cm-3cm in matching pairs, they are affixed to either an ear post or a clip-on earring and then lacquered ensuring they are both waterproof and will not fall apart. All studs come with rubber backs which sit comfortably against the ear and hold the studs tightly.

– Star Cuff Links –

These Cuff-links are a single star that have been completely lacquered and are securely affixed with resin to a silver plated or gold plated cuff-links ensuring they are waterproof and won’t fall apart. They are approximately 2-4cm wide from point to point.
